Confidence in Western's Reputation & Experience Western Ophthalmics is owned by the same person who founded it as a division of Western Optical over 40 years ago. By acquiring the instruments division in 1998, Western Ophthalmics was re-created as an entirely new stand-alone corporation. However, the Western Optical trade mark, also re-acquired in 1998, has endured as a trusted name in the optical equipment and ophthalmic instruments arenas for over 80 years.
Optician Charlie D'Amico began his optics career in 1927, founding Western Optical in Seattle. His son Jack fostered the growth of the company, including founding the instruments division, until Western had become the industry standard by the 1970's. He now operates Western Ophthalmics with his son, Pete. Both are licensed opticians, with nearly 90 years combined experience.
